Segment results

The Utility business reported earnings attributable to Entergy of $1,079 million, or $2.28 per share, compared with $810 million, or $1.79 per share, a year earlier.

Higher retail sales volume, including the effects of weather, was a primary driver. The net effect of regulatory actions across several operating companies also added to earnings, as did return on construction work in progress for certain utility plant investments.

Higher interest expense, other operation and maintenance costs, and depreciation and amortization partly offset those gains.

Weather-adjusted retail sales rose 4.5% for the quarter. Residential sales grew 6.1%, and industrial sales grew 4.9%, driven by higher sales to data center and primary metals customers.

Parent & Other posted a loss attributable to Entergy of $139 million, or 29 cents per share, compared with a loss of $117 million, or 26 cents per share, a year earlier. The company said higher interest expense was the primary driver of the change.
