Dropbox, Inc. (DBX) said on Oct. 28 it will reduce its global workforce by about 9% to align its investments and team structure with its top product and growth priorities, according to an 8-K filing.

The company estimates total cash expenditures of $27 million to $33 million, mainly for severance payments, employee benefits and related costs. Severance will include the pro rata amount of the fiscal 2026 annual employee bonus.

The company has accrued compensation expense through Sept. 30, 2026 for part of the annual bonus amounts. It expects $20 million to $25 million of incremental expense related to the severance, benefits and related costs.

The company expects to recognize substantially all of the incremental expense and pay a majority of the cash amounts in the fourth quarter of 2026. The remainder will be recognized and paid in 2027.

The filing said the estimates rest on assumptions, including local law requirements in various jurisdictions. Actual amounts may differ materially from them.

In a separate item, Dropbox said it expects third-quarter 2026 financial results to be in line with or above its guidance ranges for revenue, constant currency revenue and non-GAAP operating margin. Those ranges were provided in an investor supplement posted on Aug. 6, 2026. The results are preliminary and unaudited.

The company is scheduled to report third-quarter 2026 financial results on Nov. 5, 2026.

Ali Dasdan, Chief Technology Officer, will step down from the company effective Nov. 18, 2026. Under a separation agreement, he will receive a pro rata bonus of $515,000 and a lump sum cash payment of about $1.3 million, plus benefits consistent with those given to other departing employees.

Dasdan will also be entitled to severance benefits under his previously disclosed change in control and severance agreement. The full separation agreement will be filed as an exhibit to a later periodic report with the SEC.
