Envista (NVST) topped third-quarter profit estimates and raised its full-year profit forecast, the company said Nov. 4 in its results release.

Adjusted diluted earnings per share were 40 cents for the quarter ended Oct. 2, above the 36-cent consensus estimate and up from 32 cents a year earlier.

Sales were $691.5 million, below the $702.51 million consensus estimate and up from $669.9 million a year earlier.

Under generally accepted accounting principles, net income was $508.3 million, or $3.11 per diluted share, compared with a net loss of $30.3 million a year earlier. That figure includes a foreign currency translation gain of $428 million in operating profit, or $2.62 per diluted share before tax effects, the company said.

The company said the gain came from releasing cumulative translation adjustments tied to the dissolution of certain legal entities. It had no cash impact and no effect on adjusted EBITDA, adjusted operating income or adjusted diluted EPS.

Here's how the company did:

  • Adjusted diluted EPS: 40 cents vs. 32 cents a year earlier, against 36 cents expected
  • Sales: $691.5 million vs. $669.9 million a year earlier, against $702.51 million expected
  • GAAP diluted EPS: $3.11 vs. a loss of 18 cents a year earlier
  • Adjusted EBITDA: $105.8 million vs. $97.1 million a year earlier
